Massage: Your Key to Health

Improve Sleep, Immunity, Digestion, and Quality of Life

Therapeutic touch is an instinctive and eloquent form of communication that has been molded into a healing art. Larry Costa, author of Massage: Mind and Body, writes that massage has many "physical and mental benefits, including ... relieving muscle soreness, increasing flexibility, easing chronic pain, reducing tension headaches, boosting the immune system, promoting restful sleep, and improving concentration." Massage positively affects the body's circulatory, nervous, and immune systems. By encouraging blood flow through the veins, massage benefits the entire body.

Energy Medicine Overview

Massage therapy isn’t the only newcomer on the block when it comes to acknowledgement of complementary and alternative practices. Energy medicines can be equally as powerful, though they are often less understood and more difficult to convey to prospective clients because of their abstract concepts.

Down the Rabbit Hole

A Look at Energy Work

Like a first kiss, I will never forget my first experience with energy work. I had only been exposed to the massage and bodywork profession for one month before attending a polarity conference, in Colorado. I had done my homework, chosen the courses I wanted to attend, made myself familiar with the players and their work, and prepared myself for whatever I might be exposed to — or so I thought.

Developing the Quiet Mind

--Paul Pearsall, Ph.D., author and lecturer

Understanding this statement pushes us beyond what is often considered politically correct. But to miss its meaning causes profound unhappiness.

Pearsall explains that certain behaviors and attitudes disconnect us from the world and from other people, and we end up isolated and miserable.

Waves of Energy

Ping Lee’s training as an engineer comes in handy when he’s explaining the concept of energy. “Conceptualize the word air,” he says. “The Chinese have a lot of expressions with the word air. It sounds insignificant, so when you say something is air, what type of thing is it? Can you picture a steam locomotive, do you know how powerful that is? When we use the word steam we think of a cloud, but it is only a condensation of air — energy. What I teach in class, when we talk about energy, is seeing the word air as energy. You can feel a person’s presence, that’s energy.

Subtle Therapies With Big Impact

A Doctor’s Perspective

We all have natural energetic healing abilities. My earliest recollection of this came from my mother Margaret. Whenever my brother or I had a “booboo,” she would rub it with her hands, and if it was really serious, kiss it. Somehow it always made us feel better. Of course neither she nor I understood about energetic techniques, but I learned from these experiences that touch could make people feel better.
